Refurbished vs new hard drives
Compare the exact drive, the seller's return terms and the warranty that applies to that listing. “Refurbished” alone does not tell you who performed the work, the drive's prior use or its remaining life.
Factory recertified and seller refurbished are different claims
Seagate describes its factory-recertified products as carrying a six-month warranty. That statement applies to its recertified products and does not establish an unrelated marketplace listing or establish the seller's return policy.
Compare the saving in dollars
Subtract the refurbished asking price from the new asking price for the same model and capacity. For an arithmetic example, $150 versus $200 is a $50 difference, or 25% of the new price. It is not evidence of a failure rate or a resale value.
Check what is actually disclosed
Look for the exact model, condition description, warranty provider and duration, return window and any disclosed operating history. Unknown condition or warranty information stays unknown in the table; it is not a reason to assign a made-up discount.
