What this list covers. Desktop motherboards a US buyer can order new. Server boards are kept out of the ranking.
Server and OEM motherboards
These are often cheaper, but they are built for servers and prebuilt machines and will not run in a normal desktop. They are kept out of the ranking above so they cannot mislead it.

What decides a motherboard choice
Every desktop motherboard on sale, cheapest first. Say which processor you have and the list narrows to boards that list your socket.
Category context
What the public price index shows for motherboards
The closest thing to a price history we can lawfully keep is a US government index for a whole category of goods. A category can move while the exact part you want does not, which is why this is a level and never a price.
Category price index, not the price of a part
Printed circuit assembly (electronic assembly) manufacturing (PPI)

What we would need before saying a price is high or low
Saying "this is cheap right now" means comparing today's price with the same part's own recent prices. That needs our own record of one exact configuration, priced repeatedly over time. The sitewide record now covers 9,441 exact parts across 34 days, but the most-observed part has only 34 of the required 10 readings.
A part also needs at least 14 elapsed days and 60% measured coverage. Below any one of those, no position, trend or percentile is calculated, and none is guessed at from a shorter window. The rule and its thresholds.

Buying notes
How to choose motherboards
What these 48 listings can and cannot settle for you, with a source on every claim.
Read the buying notes, 657 words
A motherboard is the one part where getting it wrong stops the build entirely, so start from the socket your processor needs and work outward. The list above covers current flagship and mainstream boards only, which is a real limit worth knowing before you rely on it. Read 26 July 2026: ASUS US motherboard catalog and price-state methodology, published 2026-07-26.
Compatibility removes most wrong choices
The list holds 48 boards, 12 each from ASUS, MSI, Gigabyte and ASRock. It covers AM5 boards using X870 or X870E and LGA1851 boards using Z890. Every captured board uses DDR5 and is recorded as ATX or E-ATX. Those figures describe this first flagship and mainstream pass, not the complete US motherboard market. Read 26 July 2026: MSI motherboard catalog.
Start with the processor socket. An AM5 processor cannot turn an LGA1851 board into a valid substitute, even if the two listings have similar feature language or prices. The list therefore keeps socket, chipset, form factor, memory generation, manufacturer, model, region, and hardware revision attached to the board identity. ASUS and ASRock motherboard catalogs, retrieved 26 July 2026 and product-identity methodology, published 2026-07-26.
Narrow the set in this order
1. Socket: require the socket used by the chosen processor. This list has 24 AM5 boards and 24 LGA1851 boards, and no row is treated as compatible across that boundary. Read 26 July 2026: Gigabyte motherboard catalog.
2. Chipset and required connectivity: decide which slots, storage connections, networking features, rear ports, and expansion capabilities are mandatory, then check them on the exact model page. The list records the chipset for all 48 boards, but it does not standardise every port, lane, controller, or firmware feature. ASUS US motherboard catalog and MSI motherboard catalog, retrieved 26 July 2026.
3. Form factor and case fit: the current file contains ATX and E-ATX only. It cannot certify fit in a specific enclosure and does not represent Micro-ATX or Mini-ITX choices. ASUS, MSI, Gigabyte, and ASRock motherboard catalogs, retrieved 26 July 2026.
4. Memory support and exact revision: all captured rows state DDR5, but supported capacities, speeds, profiles, and qualified memory lists are not normalized in the list. Region and hardware revision remain part of the identity so a similarly named board is not silently substituted. ASRock and ASUS motherboard catalogs, retrieved 26 July 2026 and product-identity methodology, published 2026-07-26.
5. Feature evidence, not branding: Wi-Fi status is recorded for 30 of the 48 boards, while other detailed feature fields are incomplete. A missing Wi-Fi field is unknown rather than proof of absence, and the current data cannot support a board-quality or power-delivery ranking. Read 26 July 2026: MSI motherboard catalog.
The availability field is mostly unknown
Only the MSI PRO X870-P WIFI has a captured official US store listing that proves current market status. The other 47 boards are shown as stock not confirmed, not unavailable. ASUS lists models in a US catalog without a store price for every row, while the MSI, Gigabyte, and ASRock global catalogs establish model existence without proving current US stock. Read 26 July 2026: MSI US store listing and ASUS US catalog.
This first pass also omits B850, B840, B860, H810, and still-sold previous-chipset boards. The equal manufacturer counts come from a bounded collection pass and must not be interpreted as market share, stock depth, or equal availability. ASUS, MSI, Gigabyte, and ASRock catalogs, retrieved 26 July 2026.
What would change the price status
A retained offer must preserve manufacturer part number, socket, chipset, form factor, region, hardware revision, condition, merchant, source URL, and fetch time. Ambiguous regional or revision matches do not count. Once the real observation window reaches 14 days, 10 usable price readings, and 60% coverage, the site can calculate a retrospective price position for the same board identity. Missing offers remain missing rather than becoming zero-price observations, and the resulting state is not a forecast. Product-identity, coverage, and price-state methodology, published 2026-07-26.
