We read the socket from the maker's specifications where we hold them, and from the shop's listing otherwise. We do not test parts in a machine, so check the maker's page before you buy.

Price per core is a rough guide, not a speed ranking. More cores does not always mean faster for what you do.

What this list covers. Desktop processors a US buyer can order new. Server and OEM tray parts are kept out of the ranking.

What decides a CPU choice

Every desktop processor on sale, ranked by what it costs per core. Say which processor family you are building around and the list narrows to the same socket.

What this list covers. Socketed consumer desktop, HEDT, and workstation processors offered as standalone parts. Mobile, embedded, server, and rows explicitly labelled OEM-only are excluded. Availability reflects what the maker's own catalogue showed when we read it, which is not the same as a shop having stock.

Category context

What the public price index shows for CPUs

The closest thing to a price history we can lawfully keep is a US government index for a whole category of goods. A category can move while the exact part you want does not, which is why this is a level and never a price.

What we would need before saying a price is high or low

Saying "this is cheap right now" means comparing today's price with the same part's own recent prices. That needs our own record of one exact configuration, priced repeatedly over time. The sitewide record now covers 9,441 exact parts across 34 days, but the most-observed part has only 34 of the required 10 readings.

A part also needs at least 14 elapsed days and 60% measured coverage. Below any one of those, no position, trend or percentile is calculated, and none is guessed at from a shorter window. The rule and its thresholds.

Buying notes

How to choose CPUs

What these 72 listings can and cannot settle for you, with a source on every claim.

Read the buying notes, 619 words

This list holds AMD processors only. Intel publishes its specifications behind automated-access blocking, so rather than copy Intel figures from somewhere else and present them as read from the source, we have left them out and said so. If you are choosing between AMD and Intel, this page can only do half that job, and you should know that before you use it.

Start with the platform, not the price

The list holds 72 standalone AMD processors across Ryzen 5000, 7000, 8000 and 9000 and the Threadripper and Threadripper PRO ranges. Sockets recorded are AM4, AM5 and sTR5. Core counts run from 6 to 96, and manufacturer-stated thermal design power runs from 65 W to 350 W. Those are the boundaries of what is listed, not claims about relative speed, efficiency, cooling cost, or value. Read 26 July 2026: AMD Ryzen desktop catalog.

A buyer should first require the exact socket, then separate a processor-only upgrade from a new platform purchase. The list can identify socket, generation, core count, thread count, maximum boost clock, and stated TDP. It does not contain motherboard cost, memory cost, cooler requirements, application benchmarks, or a complete-system price, so none of those can be inferred from the processor row. AMD Ryzen desktop catalog, retrieved 26 July 2026 and product-identity methodology, published 2026-07-26.

What to fix before comparing two CPUs

1. Compatibility: keep socket and motherboard support fixed. This snapshot contains 21 AM4, 33 AM5, and 18 sTR5 processors, all from AMD, so it cannot answer an Intel-platform comparison. AMD Ryzen desktop catalog, retrieved 26 July 2026.

2. Workload evidence: use benchmarks for the software or game that matters to you. This list has specification fields but no benchmark results, so a larger core count or higher listed boost clock is not presented here as proof of a better result in your workload. AMD Ryzen desktop catalog, retrieved 26 July 2026.

3. Product identity: keep the exact model and package condition intact. The site treats boxed and tray processors as different identities because their offer conditions are not interchangeable. Product-identity methodology, published 2026-07-26.

4. Power and cooling: use the processor's stated TDP as a manufacturer specification, not as a complete-system wattage calculation. The captured AMD set spans six stated TDP levels from 65 W through 350 W, but the list does not contain a cooler-selection verdict. AMD Ryzen desktop catalog, retrieved 26 July 2026.

Coverage limits matter before choosing

Fourteen of the 72 processors have an official current purchase action or an explicit regional availability record. The remaining 58 show as US stock not shown rather than unavailable, because an official model listing does not prove current US stock for that exact part. Read 26 July 2026: AMD Ryzen 5 7600X3D regional page.

Intel is absent from this list because its official processor catalog returned an access block during the 26 July retrieval. The captured AMD set includes five Ryzen 8000 processors and 21 Ryzen 5000 processors. The page still cannot describe the full US desktop CPU market or call one captured model the market-wide best value. Intel processor catalog, retrieval attempted 26 July 2026, AMD Ryzen desktop catalog, retrieved 26 July 2026, and source registry, reviewed 2026-07-25.

What would change the answer

An eligible retail stream must preserve the exact processor identity, package condition, merchant, price, source URL, and fetch time. Once the real window reaches 14 days, 10 usable price readings, and 60% coverage, the site can calculate a retrospective position against that stated window. A failed coverage check or an unresolved product match keeps the result at not enough data to judge; crossing the observation threshold still does not authorize a forecast. Price-state and product-identity methodology, published 2026-07-26.
