Month by month

That is a US government index for a whole category of goods, which we are free to keep and calculate from. It is not the price of a memory kit configuration, and it must not be read as one: a category can move while the exact part you want does not, and the other way round. The published match rating for this series against RAM is good, and it stays on the panel rather than the index being quietly treated as exact.

2. What is not measured?

A real timing answer needs the same exact part priced over and over, from a source we are allowed to keep. We hold none, because no shop has approved a feed for this site yet. Nothing on this page is loading or broken; the record simply does not exist, and it cannot be filled in backwards once it does. That is the honest difference between this page and a chart built from prices someone copied without permission.

3. Why not just call it anyway?

We wrote the buy-or-wait rule and tested it against 1,252 past decisions across 11 index series, with no hindsight: every decision used only what had been published before that date. At three months, 29 of 48 wait signals were followed by a higher index. At six months, 74.5% were. A rule that is wrong more often than a coin toss is worse than useless, because people would act on it, so it is switched off in code and a test keeps it off.

4. What would change this page?

Three specific thresholds, all of which have to be met: at least 10 usable prices for one exact memory kit configuration, gathered across at least 14 days, covering at least 60% of the offers we would expect to find. Any one of them failing keeps this page exactly as it is.

Note what all three passing would produce: a statement about where today's price sits against that part's own recent past. Still not a forecast. We would need a different and much higher bar before publishing one of those, and we may never clear it.

5. How complete would the data be?

Coverage is the share of the offers we would expect to find that a collection run actually matched. We report it as unavailable rather than as zero, because zero would suggest we ran a collection and found nothing. No collection has run: no source has given permission for one.

This matters more than it sounds. If a large shop drops out of a feed, the average price jumps and a naive tracker reports a rise that never happened. When collection does start, a run covering less than 60% of the comparison period suspends the answer rather than recalculating a direction from the smaller sample.

In detail

What the evidence does say about RAM

The retained data does not support a date or direction for retail RAM. It does show a broad semiconductor index moving lower for two months after an April 2026 local high. That is upstream context, not a DDR4 or DDR5 price forecast.

What the public data says now

The BLS producer-price index for semiconductor and related device manufacturing was 29.695 in June 2026. It was 1.5% below May 2026, 0.4% below its trailing 12-month mean of 29.829, and 0.6% below June 2025. The recent sequence was 30.602 in April, 30.162 in May, and 29.695 in June. The broader consumer index for computers, peripherals, and smart home assistants was 35.406 in June 2026. It was 0.7% below May 2026, 1.0% above its trailing 12 reported observations, and 0.8% below June 2025. October 2025 is missing from the retained response and was not filled in. Together, those observations describe a recent softening in a broad upstream series and one month of a lower consumer-hardware backdrop. They do not establish what happened to a particular memory kit.

What the indexes do not measure

PCU334413334413 covers semiconductor and related device manufacturing. It does not isolate DRAM, much less a particular DDR generation, capacity, module count, data rate, timing, or XMP or EXPO profile. CUUR0000SEEE01 combines computers, peripherals, and smart home assistants. Neither series contains merchant stock, promotion prices, or a dollar price for a RAM kit. Retail RAM can also split while the upstream average barely moves. DDR4 and DDR5 are not substitutes in every system, and a kit with a different capacity or timing is not a like-for-like observation. What a sustained move looked like in the retained history

The semiconductor index recorded five successive lower monthly readings from 30.322 in March 2025 to 30.235 in April, 29.982 in May, 29.882 in June, 29.798 in July, and 29.392 in August. That sequence is a historical example of a change becoming visible through repeated releases rather than through one dramatic headline. It says nothing about what followed for an individual RAM kit. The condition to watch

For the public-index picture, check the next two releases of PCU334413334413. The picture would change from a two-month retreat to a sustained retreat only if both new observations are lower than the preceding month and later revisions preserve the May and June sequence. Check CUUR0000SEEE01 for the same months. A lower reading there would make the signal coordinated across upstream and consumer context. That still would not become a retail RAM verdict. The retail picture changes only after the source registry shows a retention-cleared offer source and a like-for-like kit record reaches at least 14 days, 10 usable price readings, and 60% coverage. Why there is no buy-or-wait answer

The timing rule was backtested without lookahead over 1,252 observed series-months across 11 BLS series. At three months, 29 of 48 testable wait signals were contradicted, a 60.4% failure rate. The rule was worse than its pre-declared 40% limit and is switched off. A high percentile or a recent lower sequence is not evidence that the next observation must continue it. The useful answer today is therefore a dated state and a test: the broad semiconductor series has two lower months, and two more coordinated releases would make that upstream change more durable. Neither result tells you to buy or wait.
