A useful price history keeps the exact product: the manufacturer part number, the configuration, the condition, which shop it was, and the moment it was seen. No public index carries any of those fields, so no index can stand in for it, however much it looks like a price line on a chart.

Two BLS storage series provide a long monthly manufacturing history. They are the best-matched public indexes among the six component categories, but they still do not contain a single retail SSD offer. This series contains 114 monthly observations from 2017-01 through 2026-06 with no missing month. It began at 58.300, reached a retained low of 54.100 in September 2019, and reached its retained high of 80.201 in June 2026. The latest value was 16.5% above its trailing 12-month mean of 68.813, 31.5% above June 2025, and 37.6% above January 2017. March through June 2026 are provisional. The second series also contains 114 monthly observations from 2017-01 through 2026-06 with no missing month. It began at 46.100, reached a retained low of 42.800 in September 2019, and reached its retained high of 61.175 in June 2026. The latest value was 16.8% above its trailing 12-month mean of 52.397, 32.2% above June 2025, and 32.7% above January 2017. March through June 2026 are provisional. The second sequence moved from 49.679 in December 2025 to 54.026 in January 2026, 55.181 in February and March, 56.319 in April and May, and 61.175 in June. What is missing from a retail history

A like-for-like SSD series needs the same exact drive, capacity, controller, NAND revision when known, form factor, condition, merchant, and observation time. It also needs a stable group of sources so a retailer disappearing cannot masquerade as a price increase. Product-identity and coverage methodology, published 2026-07-26.

The public history does not carry buy-or-wait advice. The 2026-07-26 backtest contradicted 60.4% of testable three-month wait signals and 52.5% of testable three-month buy signals.
